John Richardson ~ "Awakening Justice"
John is the managing partner of Pivot Legal LLP and the Executive Director of Pivot Legal Society. A graduate of the University of Victoria law school, John was called to the BC bar in 2001. Before law school, John received a B.Sc in math and philosophy at the University of Toronto, and an International Baccalaureate at Pearson College.
John has participated in many of Pivot Legal Society's campaigns, and was the lead author of To Serve And Protect, Pivot's first report on policing in the Downtown Eastside. In November 2005 John was awarded an Ashoka Fellowship for his vision of using the law strategically to advance the rights of the most marginalized members of society. Most of John's time is spent finding new ways to help build Pivot into a powerful force for social change.
John spent most of his childhood growing up in Cranbrook and Penticton in the interior of BC. After leaving home, he traveled a fair amount, living abroad in Japan and Senegal for several years. He enjoys dancing and music, and plays the djembe. He can occasionally be seen hula hooping in parks around Strathcona, where he lives with his cat, Mamasita.
