Where does "spirituality" and the evolution of consciousness fit in the ecological community? The modern and postmodern worldviews threw the spiritual baby out with the bathwater of premodern superstition and pathological religious fundamentalism. This was entirely necessary, serving to liberate human consciousness from the myopic scriptural and ecclesiastical perspectives of mythic consciousness. However, there is an emerging, integral spirituality that transcends, yet includes, traditional faith systems. The reintegration of spiritual consciousness can serve the healing of our planet. This spirituality is grounded in evolutionary science, yet functions like ancient myth in the evocation of awe and wonder at the sacred mystery of creation. When we tell the new story of creation as a sacred narrative, we gain a new identity. We become centers of conscious evolution and tap into the sustaining and creative energy of the universe to engage in the work of repairing our planet.
